How Versitile is Your Wardrobe?

How versatile is your wardrobe? Steve (@VitadilussoInc) wrote a great blog post about the importance of choosing versatile pieces when building a suitable wardrobe:
Being a personal stylist and fashion consultant people ask me all the time how to maximize their wardrobe in these trying economic times. Let me demonstrate for you. Using what we have in this picture a three piece charcoal suit and a tweed jacket:
1. Suit as seen
2. Jacket and slacks as seen
3. Charcoal suit slacks vest and sport coat
4. Charcoal vest a pair of jeans and a V-neck
5. Tweed jacket, charcoal vest and a pair of jeans
6. Charcoal jacket and a pair of jeans
7. Charcoal Suit no vest
8. Vest and slacks no jacket
There you have it at least 8 combinations that you can get from one 3 piece suit and one sport coat keep the shirts and shoes changing and no one will even recognize that you are wearing the same articles of clothing.
This is exactly what we try to help our clients do: choose a few staple pieces that can create a variety of outfits and different looks. By choosing pieces that are versatile, you will get a lot more out of the wardrobe you invest in.
Developing true style is always a better investment than chasing fashion.

Dress Shirts are Simple
Nice article on A Suitable Wordrobe today about dress shirts which makes the case for blue:
Dress Shirts Are Simple
Matteo Marzotto, the well-dressed man in the photo, is said to wear blue shirts most days, and that makes my point for me. Aside from some white for evening, a man can do just fine with nothing in his closet but light blue shirts. After all, blue combines well with jackets in gray, navy, tan and brown. What does that leave, really? Nothing.
Wearing nothing but blue may sound dull but it actually provides plenty of variety. A dozen blue shirts hardly begin to cover the options. Oxford cloth and twill for winter, chambray and end on end for shoulder season and voile and high twist weaves for summer. Tiny houndstooth checks and pin stripes spaced so closely that they appear solid. And then there are the cuffs: turnback for city suits and button cuffs for less formal attire. With spread collars, tab collars, buttondowns and collars for pins; even a contrast collar or two.
Dress shirts are simple.
